The cap is fully surrounded by fold down side panelling, with sloping frontal scallops. Each side of the crown is flanked by a ventilation hole, reinforced with magnetic metal eyelets. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is the remnant of an insignia in the form of a black rayon backer bearing a silver grey machine embroidered Wehrmacht eagle
